Informed Consent Abstraction Training

The CMS measure of informed consent document quality was developed to assess the quality of informed consent documents for a broad range of elective procedures. While the measure is currently not in use, CMS is making the training measure methodology public, as it may be helpful to hospitals and providers in their efforts to improve the quality of informed consent process.

Informed consent document quality is rated using a validated Abstraction Tool. This page contains a brief series of training videos to assist raters in scoring the quality of informed consent documents using the Abstraction Tool.

Please watch the video to the right, and then click the "Begin Abstraction Training" link at the bottom of the page to begin training.
